A/C System Evaluation

There are many possible reasons why your car's A/C may not be working. One of the most effective ways to diagnose the problem is to have an ASE-certified technician near you evaluate the state of your vehicle's system, including:

  • Outlet temperature analysis designed to determine cooling performance
  • System pressure check
  • Visual inspection of A/C electrical components & connections
  • A blacklight inspection of your A/C system using an injection of ultraviolet dye and 5 ounces of refrigerant that provides enough pressure to course through the system and expose leaks
  • There are times where a vehicle must be driven for a period of time in order for the leak to be seen
  • Includes 5 ounces of R134A refrigerant

$55.001

Signs Your Car's AC System Needs Repair

If your vehicle’s A/C isn’t performing like it used to, it might be time for AC auto repair. Here are some common signs your system may need professional attention:

Warm Air Instead of Cool

If your car’s A/C blows warm or room-temperature air, it could mean low refrigerant levels or a more complex issue.

Weak or Limited Airflow

A noticeable drop in airflow might signal a clogged cabin filter, failing blower motor, or duct blockage.

Strange Sounds

Grinding, rattling, or hissing noises when the A/C is running could point to internal damage or loose components.

Unpleasant Smells

A musty odor from the vents can mean mold or mildew is building up in the system, which may require cleaning or disinfecting.

Water Stains or Leaks

Moisture on the floorboard or visible leaks under your vehicle could mean a clogged drain line or refrigerant leak.

Why Regular A/C Maintenance Helps Keep You Cool and Comfortable

Your car’s A/C system works hard, especially during the hottest months. Regular AC maintenance helps catch minor issues early, so you can help avoid unexpected breakdowns and bigger repair bills down the road. At Pep Boys, our technicians inspect and service your system to help keep cool air flowing when you need it most. Stay chill all summer long with routine car A/C checkups at a location near you.

FAQs About Car Air Conditioning

Why is regular air conditioning service important?

Regular air conditioning service helps ensure your vehicle's air conditioning system operates efficiently, providing cool air during hot weather and helping prevent major, costly repairs down the road.

Is AC service worth it?

Just like regular oil changes support your engine, routine A/C checks help maintain proper airflow, cooling performance, and system health. Catching small issues early can also help prevent bigger, more expensive repairs later on.

How can I tell if my car's AC needs servicing?

Common signs your car's AC needs servicing include blowing warm air, unusual noises when the AC is on, a musty smell, or reduced airflow from the vents. If you notice any of these issues, it's time to have your AC system checked.

Why is my car AC blowing warm air?

Your car's AC may blow warm air due to low refrigerant levels, a malfunctioning compressor, a clogged condenser, or leaks in the system. A professional AC service at Pep Boys can diagnose and recommend repair options.

How often should I get my car's air conditioning serviced?

It's recommended that your car's AC system be checked at least once a year, preferably before the summer season, to ensure it's in good working condition.

What type of refrigerant does Pep Boys use?

Pep Boys uses the manufacturer-recommended refrigerant for your vehicle to ensure optimal performance and compatibility.
